Colony- A group of people who leave their native country to form in a new land a settlement subject to, or connected with, the parent nation.

An example of a colony would be any of the 13 colonies in North America before the United States and Canada became separate countries. These 13 colonies are a very important piece of history in the development of North America. The 13 colonies were along the Eastern part of North America and were a big part in making what North America is today.
