Grand Exchange is also known as the Columbian Exchange. This name comes from Christopher Columbus who was the main factor in this historical event. This exchange was just not about the different animals and plants. There were slaves exchanged as well as many diseases, which have definitely affected people over the years. Some of the diseases spread in the Grand Exchange were malaria, smallpox, and measles, including many more.

This exchange also had many positive affects. Many of the foods exchanged became the staples of many cultures diets. Before the exchange potatoes were only grown in South America but after the exchange Ireland was very dependent on the potato. In fact Ireland were so dependent on the potato that the Irish Potato Famine occurred because of diseased crops.
