A Non-Governmental Organization, NGO for short, is an organization that has been created by a person/group of people working toward a common goal. Well-known NGOs would be Amnesty International, UNICEF, and Doctors Without Borders. Although NGOs rely heavily on volunteer work and public support, governments often give out grants to these organizations. Often, the United Nations Commission on Human Rights influenced by NGOs when creating human rights standards on an international level. Even supranational organizations like the World Trade Organization have some of their policies reflecting the beliefs of NGOs.

An example of an NGO would be the organization, Concern Worldwide. Concern Worldwide is a charitable organization whos main goal is to provide emergency humanitarian aid and development aid.
