"Overgeneralizing," basically means to make something too general. In other words, it means to not be specific enough about something. Grave errors can be made when all the smaller considerations of a specific issue are not explored.

The above cartoon is an example of overgeneralization. The United States declared war on Iraq based on a belief on weapons of mass destruction. Europe, believed that the United States was overgeneralizing the issue at hand. Not only did it turn out that Iraq did not have weapons of mass destruction but there was no evidence whatsoever to support the belief that Iraq was an immediate danger.

Overgeneralizing is the act of generalizing something to an extreme that it puts a negative affect on the situation and oversimplifies reality.
