Defining Propaganda
The definition of Propaganda according to Webster’s New World Dictionary is as follows: Any systematic, widespread dissemination or promotion of particular ideas, doctrines, practices etc to further one’s own cause or to damage an opposing one.
Another Definition on Propaganda
Propaganda is the ideas and information that is spread for the purpose of achieving a specific goal.
For example, Hitler and Stalin were two leaders who lead in very similar ways. Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin are connected to the word propaganda.
An Example of Propaganda
They both used propaganda to achieve power over countries and manipulate people into believeing what they were saying was the absolute truth. Propaganda is an essential part of any dictatorship for it projects a glowing image of the dictator in question.
While Stalin was the head of the USSR he did terrible things, including causing the death of millions of Ukrainians through starvation. When he went through the sstreets, however, Russians still cheered for him. This is an example of how propaganda works.
Here are some images describing Propaganda and another Example
This picture above describes Propaganda very well. It shows a picture of Joseph Stalin a former Russian Dictator who used propaganda a lot. While he was industrializing Russia back in the forty’s he used propaganda to show Russia’s situation to the rest of the world. Some people debate Stalin as an economic genius (he did industrialize Russia so fast people thought it would be impossible); others debate him as a brutal murderer (he did kill 30 million people). Now this all relates to how he used propaganda, above is a poster in support of Stalin. This is an example of propaganda; he showed the rest of the world the positive sides of his industrialization as you see many people at a support rally. However on that poster did he show the negative side of his industrialization, did he show pictures of people he killed, no. So from viewing this poster you can infer that Propaganda is simply showing only one side of a situation.
