It is an idea reflected on someone or a group of something that is different from your group of people.

What does "stereotyping" mean? Well, i am sure that we have all heard a very common one. Has anyone heard someone say that all blondes are dumb? This is a stereotype, and www.dictionary.com defines it as "Sociology. a simplified and standardized conception or image invested with special meaning and held in common by members of a group: The cowboy and Indian are American stereotypes."

Stereotypes can either be negative or positive. For example, a negative stereotype is presented in the cartoon above and below. The above cartoon claims that all homeless people are drunks, and are hopeless which is certainly not true. Also, the below cartoon claims that all blondes are dumb, which i know for a fact is not true.

Positive stereotypes also exist as well. For example, www.media-awareness.ca says that a positive stereotype is that "all black people are good at basketball." However, somehow a stereotype always makes one group sound like they are trying to dominate over the other.
