Depopulation is a term used to describe a large decrease in human population. Depopulation can occur in rural areas as well as urban areas. The main cause of depopulation is due to violence, catastrophes, and diseases.
History of depopulation:
-Many wars contributed to the depopulation of races or ethnic groups of people.
-Genocides contribute to depopulation. For instance, the genocides in Rwanda and Darfur and Jewish concentration camps during Hitler’s reign.
-Foreign disease contributed to depopulation. For instance, indigenous people had no way to protect themselves from smallpox when it was brought over seas from Europe.

depopulation is the dramatic reduction of population by destruction or expulsion. Depopulation can occur because of war and disease mainly. such as the dramatic depopulation of Europe in the times when the bubonic plague was incurable, or the changes of population of native tribes when smallpox was introduced by the Europeans.
smallpox devastated native populations around the world who were not as immune to the disease as Europeans.
